Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake

From the kitchen of Winona Brown, my grandma.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups water hot
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 10 tablespoons oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, & cocoa in a large bowl. Set aside.

  2. Combine hot water, salt, baking soda & oil together.

  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, gradually.

  4. Fold in eggs one at a time.  Stir in vanilla extract.

  5. Bake 1 hour in 325 degrees F oven.

Recipe Notes

This recipe is intended for a 9x13 inch baking pan.  If using smaller pans, decrease cook time.
